MANAMA - Mama Shelter, a boutique hotel concept born in France, is set for its Bahrain launch next year.
The brand, which is now part of the Accor portfolio, announced yesterday it had signed an agreement with GFH Financial Group (GFH) to operate a new 160-room hotel, with a restaurant and sea-view rooftop pool, within the Harbour Row development.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Mama Shelter Bahrain will be the brand’s first sea-facing property and the 13th addition to the collection.
Serge, Benjamin and Jérémie Trigano, co-founders of Mama Shelter, said the brand emphasis is “comfort and simplicity with style, focusing on king size beds, plush bedding alongside cutting-edge design elements by Mama’s Design Studio, led by Benjamin El Doghaïli”.
The hotel’s design has been thought out in two ways, said Mr El Doghaïli.
“Firstly, the relationship with the sea as it is a waterfront hotel. The second is to propose a lifestyle experience which refers to the nomadic aesthetic and the hospitality from the inner part of the region.”
On choosing Bahrain as the next location, after Paris, Los Angeles, and London among others, chairman Serge Trigano said, “When we visited Bahrain for the first time, we found men and women who were open to the cultures of other people and who were tremendously excited at the prospect of welcoming the Mama experience to the city.”
Accor Middle East and Africa chief executive Mark Willis said the firm believes “Mama Shelter marks a definitive first in lifestyle hotels in Manama and has the potential to be a global showcase for this dynamic brand.”
According to GFH chief executive Hisham Al Rayes, through the partnership with Accor, the firm is creating a value proposition not only at Harbour Row but for Bahrain, aimed at supporting development in the lifestyle and tourism sector.
Harbour Row is situated within the $1.5 billion Bahrain Financial Harbour, and is made up of six buildings, split between the West and East side.
Four of these are residential buildings consisting of 322 apartments, with the other two buildings set to house a five-star hotel and a boutique hotel.
The five-star hotel will be operated by UAE-based H Hotels & Resorts Management, GFH announced in June.
