Sunday, 10 December 2006: KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has launched 'Visit Malaysia 2007' campaign to mark 50 years of independence and has planned several special events for tourists as a part of its celebrations. To attract Arab tourists special programs have been worked out amongst the 200 plus tourists events.

"Some special packages of spa, diving and summer camps would roll out soon. To facilitate Arab tourist there will be announcements and sign boards in Arabic at the airport and they will be assisted by Arabic speaking volunteers," stated a press release issued by Malaysian tourism board.

All across the country from malls to hotels, part time Arabic speaking staff has been employed and Arabic food will be widely available, said the statement.

The tourism body has been working continuously to cater Arab tourists, the parks which are popular with Arabs will be kept open till midnight.

Shopping in Kuala Lumpur promises variety, value and convenience. There is a wide range of shopping establishments catering for every taste and budget.

Among the items high on the shopping list of tourists are pewter, batik, duty-free items, electrical products, prt-a-porter attire, sportswear and handicrafts. A novel experience for overseas visitors is the night markets or 'pasar malam' which begin their trading activities in the late afternoon. These open-air markets feature hawker stalls that sell a variety of local produce, foodstuff, clothing and cakes. Street artists and traditional medicine vendors are an entertaining sight here.

Other events include the floral Parade in KL, Le Tour de Langkawi which is the richest cycling race in Asia, the Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in March, The rainforest festival in Sarawak, and the most exciting - The Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival.
