DOHA: Home to thousands of low-income foreign workers, warehouses and factories, the Old Industrial Area--which presently lies in utter neglect--is in for a huge revamp.

Once ready, the area is to be linked to the New Industrial Area being developed and once ready the twin townships would be of international standard.

A huge traffic intersection is planned and it would stand in the middle of the old and new industrial areas.

All the 50 streets in the Old Industrial Area are to be developed and upgraded into dual carriageways with three lanes on each side.

Green plants would decorate the road dividers and there will be flyovers in the areas as well. The project is to be launched early next year in two phases, Al Sharq reported yesterday quoting unnamed sources in the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

The designs of the entire project would be ready in six months, the daily said.
