KUWAIT: Technical difficulties may delay completion of the KD 31 million Agaila pumping station for a year, according to a senior Ministry of Public Works (MPW) official. Khalid Al-Khazi, the MPW Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs, said that although around 72 percent of the work on the station, one of a series of projects aimed at developing the country's drainage network, is already completed, technical problems meant that its opening might be extended from 2010 to 2011.
Al-Khazi explained that the 4,500-square meter pumping station aims to collect drainage water from the Sabah Al-Salem, Fahaheel and Regga areas, replacing some of the old stations which are not equipped for the current levels of drainage and waste water. The station would also help to eliminate the foul smells from the overflowing waste water which occasionally permeate the areas, especially in summer, he added.
