The Municipal Council is sparing no effort to streamline the foundation and work of small and medium enterprises to widen the production base of the national economy, two municipal officials have concurred.

The council backs SMEs, through legal means, to improve business environment, Hamad Al-Medlej, head of the council's legal and financial committee, told KUNA on the sidelines of a symposium on small enterprises hosted by the Kuwait Economic Society on Monday.

He suggested that transferring SMEs dossier from the Ministry of Commerce and to the Premiership would end problems facing small businesses and create business friendly environment. Al-Medlej said that the council was preparing the bylaws of the exhibitions and had positively responded to the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises to allocate places for mobile vendors.

For his part, head of the council's technical committee Abdulaziz Al-Majal echoed a similar view.

The council attaching great attention to small enterprises, particularly the industrial, agricultural and environmental ones to boost the production base of the national economy, he told KUNA.

He underlined the need for synergy among all state institutions to support SMEs as it would encourage youth to move smoothly from the public to the private sector.
