Kalima translates 'Les Energies Renouvelables' into Arabic

Abu Dhabi, April 3rd, 2011 (WAM) -- Kalima, the translation project of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), has published the Arabic translation of Jacques Verniers "Les Energies Renouvelables" (Renewable Energies).

The book examines how humans have made use of all the different types of energy available on earth since ancient times. They have burned wood to produce fire and this has enabled them to cook food, heat up their homes and protect themselves from enemies. They have harnessed the power of the wind and benefitted from the flow of hot and cold waters that emanate from the earth. They have dried fruits and cured meat using the heat of the sun and have effectively used both high and low sea tides to their advantage.

What we know today as renewable energy is not a new concept. What is new are the technological advancements that are allowing us to benefit ever more effectively from these energy resources.

The book defines renewable energies, and discusses how best to use them. It details the facts about each source, and looks at their future prospects through the examination of French, European and global statistics and data.

Some of the figures on the potential of available energy sources that are elaborated on in the book are surprising. For instance, the energy of the sun over only 1 percent of the Grand Sahara Desert would be sufficient to provide the world with all its electricity needs!Les energies Renouvelables is an interesting and useful book which aims to influence readers opinions and make them think about their surroundings and the effects that renewable energy might have on them.

Born in 1944 in Paris, Jacques Vernier is a general mining engineer. He graduated from the renowned Ecole Polytechnique. He is involved in science, politics and is a member of numerous associations. He is an environmental specialist and activist. He is also the lawmaker of a province in the North of France and a former member of the European Parliament.

Vernier is an activist and is connected with many civil society associations that seek to preserve the environment. He is former mayor of the city of "Douai" in the North.

He is the author of "La Bataille de l'Environnement" (The Battle of the Environment)" (1971) and "L'environnement" (The Environment) (1992). "Les Energies Renouvelables" was published in 1997.

The book has been translated by Abdel Hadi Idrissi. Born in 1957 in Safi, Morocco, Idrissi pursued his studies in Meknes, Rabat and Bezanson.
