RIYADH, May 15 (KUNA) -- Saudi and foreign journalists mourned here Thursday Kuwait's late Father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and recalled his achievements in different fields.

Editor-in-Chief of Al-Jazeera paper Khalid Al-Malik said Saudi Arabia, the Gulf region, and the Arab world received the news of the demise of Sheikh Saad with sorrow and grief.

He told KUNA that Sheikh Saad dedicated his life for the service of his country and its people, as well as Arab and Muslim nations, adding that the passing of Sheikh Saad was a loss for the whole world.

Al-Malik stressed that Sheikh Saad played a major role in strengthening Saudi-Kuwaiti relations.

Meanwhile, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Watan paper Sulaiman Al-Oqaili expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Kuwaiti leadership, government, and people, praying that Almighty Allah would have mercy on the soul of Sheikh Saad.

He said Sheikh Saad played a major role in defending Kuwait's right during the Iraqi invasion in 1990 and made great contributions to the development and rebuilding of Kuwait after its liberation.

On his part, head of the Emirates News Agency's (WAM) bureau in Riyadh Abdulnabi Shaheen extended condolences to the Kuwaiti leadership, government, and people on the demise of the Father Amir, saying the deceased was keen on strengthening ties between Kuwait and other countries of the world.

Head of the Chinese Xinhua News Agency's bureau in Riyadh recalled Sheikh Saad's heroic actions and solid stances during Saddam's invasion of Kuwait.

He said the deceased played a significant role in rebuilding Kuwait after the liberation and in strengthening the unity of the Kuwaiti people.
