AMMAN (JT) -- The US embassy yesterday invited Jordanian citizens interested in gaining a permanent residence visa for the US to register for the 2007 Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery.

The annual Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Programme makes permanent residence visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements, according to a US embassy statement.

Persons seeking to enter the lottery programme must register on-line between now and Dec 4.

The website for registering is www.dvlottery.state.gov and will be available from noon Oct. 5 through until noon Dec. 4.

Applicants are chosen by a computer-generated random lottery drawing.

The 2007 Diversity Visa Lottery marks the third year that electronic registration is required. Paper entries and mail-in requests for DV Lottery registration are no longer accepted.

In response to applicant demand, the US Department of State has tripled the number of servers hosting the registration website this year.

In addition, persons submitting entries for the 2007 lottery will receive a notice of receipt containing their name, date of birth, country of chargeability and a time/date stamp when their information has been properly registered at www.dvlottery.state.gov.

The DV Programme is administered by the Department of State and makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas annually to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States and who meet the programme's requirements.

Jordan is a selected country for this programme.

Registration for the Diversity Visa Lottery through the official US government website is free of charge and notification of winning will be sent by mail only.
