Steps are being taken to establish an energy bourse which will focus on electricity, said Energy Minister Majid Namjou.

He added that the Energy Ministry approved the establishment of the bourse in the past Iranian year (ended March 20), IRNA reported.

Coordination on this will be made with Bourse Organization, he said adding once operational, the bourse will facilitate the sale and purchase of energy, provide funds for producers, supply energy to distributors and consumers, appraise prices, provide risk coverage, make transactions more transparent, ease energy exchange and reduce costs.

Namjou pointed out that the ministry will employ modern technology and renewable energies for proper management of water and electricity networks in times of energy shortage.

The minister said that the Subsidy Reform Plan has helped reduce energy consumption to a great extent, adding energy saving in government organizations is among the other strategies of the ministry.

"The Energy Ministry has specials plans on agenda to solve water shortage problem during the summer," he said.

Namjou recalled the ministry set up special headquarters to manage supply-demand of water for consumption in urban areas during the drought of 1998, 2000, and 2010 and adopted special strategies to resolve water shortage problems during the heat wave last summer, which was unprecedented in the past 70 years.

Efforts will be made to identify and remove the shortcomings, he concluded.
