PERI GmbH, a Germany-based provider of construction equipment and services, is planning to set up a stockyard facility in Barka as well as a subsidiary company to cater to the increasing demand for construction equipment in the Oman market.

Speaking to Muscat Daily at the Builders International Gathering Show 2012 at the Oman International Exhibition Center (OIEC) on Monday, Devaraj Gowda, area sales and administrative manager of PERI for Oman, said the company will set up the stockyard facility in a 10,000sqm area in Barka which will be ready by the end of 2012.

He said, "As of now we are bringing equipment to the Oman market from our subsidiary in the UAE. Once the stockyard is ready, equipment will come directly from Germany to Sohar port and then to Barka."

Gowda said that PERI, which mainly provides formwork and scaffolding solutions to the construction industry, will also plan to set up a subsidiary in the sultanate in the near future.

He said, "There is a huge demand in Oman for our construction equipment and solutions due to ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects. Our clients are Oman's large construction companies including Al Turki, Galfar, Al Hassan and many others. Our highly efficient and cost effective construction solutions are being used worldwide."

PERI's sales turnover in Oman was RO2.01mn in the year 2011 which Gowda said is likely to reach RO5.24mn in 2012. In addition to its headquarters in Weissenhorn, Germany, PERI has 66 international subsidiaries with over 100 logistics sites globally.
