Abu Dhabi, Sept. 25th, 2006 (WAM) - The General Authority forHealth Services for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (GAHS) yesterdaysigned a contract with the American company 3M to install andoperate Medical Procedures Coding system in the hospitals underGAHS.

The contract was signed by Mr. Ibrahim Al Musa, Director of Administrationand Financial Sector in GAHS and Mr. Amr Al Deeb, CEO of i-capitolon behalf of the American company.

"The system- the first of its kind in the Region - will enableGAHS as well as the hospitals to get accurate analysis of theactual cost of the health services provided to the patient" saidAl Mosa.

Furthermore, the system will improve clinical data analysisand measure the performance of the physicians as well as Hospitalsand to improve cost allocation.

In addition, GAHS will use this system to facilitate their transitionfrom traditional budget system to Activity Based Budget. Movingto the new budget system will change dramatically the financialsystem employed currently at Abu Dhabi emirate.

In the first phase, the new system will be installed at fourhospitals: SKMC, Rahba, Mafraq and Tawam. The second phase willinclude the rest of Abu Dhabi's public sector whereas the thirdphase will enable the private healthcare sector to have the fullaccess to that coding system.

Saeed Al Kuwaiti, Finance Director in Tawam said the Companywill install the software of the new system, train GAHS and hospital'sstaff who will work on the new system and give them on-line technicalsupport.

He emphasized his confidence that the new system will give abig boost to the atomization plan pursued by GAHS to improvethe health services. He pointed out that 3M has the necessaryglobal experience and is currently providing around 70% of allwork in this field in the USA.
