TRIPOLI, Lebanon: The manager of a nature reserve in Ehden was allegedly assaulted by the owner of a nearby tourism establishment Thursday.
The owner of the establishment, who was identified by security sources as a member of the Yammine family, began cursing at the manager, Sandra Saba, and the mayor of Ehden, Tawfiq Mouawad, as they toured the area while overseeing a survey of the reserve’s borders.
The survey was designed to identify illegal tourist establishments and parking lots that have sprung up on reserve property.
The suspect in the incident was detained at a police station in nearby Zghorta following the incident, but was released after she promised to stay away from employees of the reserve and the engineering team conducting the survey. Zghorta MPs denounced the incident.
