BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Maritime traffic at Egypt's Suez Canal is normal and hasn't been affected by the actions of local protestors that aimed to disrupt the canal's operations, pan-Arab Asharq Al Awsat daily reports Monday citing an official.
About 1,000 protestors blocked a key road leading to the canal and to the Tawfik port on the Red Sea Saturday evening, Ahmed Al Manakhly, director of the traffic department at the Suez Canal Authority, said according to the paper.
Work at the Adabiya port on the Red Sea stopped on Sunday after protestors prevented trucks and workers from entering and leaving the port, but the canal operations weren't disrupted, he added.
