Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is currently considering increasing the contribution of renewable energy to its energy mix to 47% by 2035, Akhbar El-Yom reported on Monday, citing the country’s minister of electricity Mohamed Shaker as saying.
The North African nation currently works with an international house of expertise to set a strategy that aims to boost the contribution of renewable energy to its energy mix to 47% by 2035 from a previous target of 42%, he noted.
The country managed to resolve its power outage issue by 2015 after having taken several steps.
Over the last four years, Egypt added 25,000 megawatts (MW) to its national power grid by the end of 2018, Shaker revealed.
In addition, the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity has installed about 105,000 smart electric meters out of the total number of 250,000, and the remaining 145,000 will be installed during 2019.
