The Ebsar Society (charity organization to help visually impaired people) launched the distribution of copies of the Braille language version of the Holy Qur'an in collaboration with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Press for the printing of the Holy Qur'an in the Braille language. Those who applied for the copies of the holy book, including those applied from foreign countries, will receive copies. "The charity society began the first phase of distribution of the copies to establishments and organizations related to the visually impaired," Secretary General of the society Muhammad Balw said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday.
The society is also coordinating with the Holy Qur'an Memorization Society for the distribution of the copies. The society handed over 20 Braille copies of the holy book, the first installment of the copies meant for the visually impaired in Jerusalem, to Jordan's consulate in Jeddah, he said. Those copies would be sent to East Jerusalem with the help of the Higher Council for the Disabled People in the Kingdom of Jordan.
He called on businessmen and officials of corporate responsibility to support the Ebsar society in its charitable activities, as the printing and transportation of the Braille copies of the holy book and its administration work were expensive. He also stressed the need to teach the large number of the disabled people who have not learned the Braille language. The society is currently assessing those who can benefit from the copies out of the 1,200 visually impaired people including children above nine who are receiving its assistance, he said.
