Abu Dhabi, Mar. 16th, 2007 (WAM)---Celebrating the 50th anniversaryof European Union, the Abu Dhabi Classical Music Committeein collaboration with the embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Abu Dhabi, a classical music concert will be presented byAmstel Saxophone Quartet in Abu Dhabi on 21st March.
The venue of the vent will be Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company(ADMA-OPCO) Theatre in Abu Dhabi. The four young and enthusiastic saxophonists who built an internationalreputation in the world of chamber music are Remco Jak - sopranosaxophone, Olivier Sliepen - alto saxophone, Bas Apswoude - tenorsaxophone and Ties Mellema - baritone saxophone. The repertoire of the Amstel Quartet, which is divided into dividedinto four categories: traditional, contemporary, transcriptionsand other work, is original, its performances personal. From the mystery of Bach's Second Cello Suite in D to MichaelNyman's theme for the film, The Piano, the four saxophones unleasha new energy with each arrangement. The Amstel Quartet has thetechnical confidence to tackle the most difficult piece fromIannis Xenakis and the versatility to collaborate with artistsfrom other disciplines - such as dance, musical theatre, mimeand cinema. This versatility and talent have earned the Amstel Quartet manyprizes at competitions, the latest accolade coming in the formof the 2006 Concert Artists Guild Management and Audience Awardsat Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2005 the Amstel Quartetwon the International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach, Franceand placed second for the Gaudeamus Interpreter's Prize. In 2004 they won the Chamber Music in Yellow Springs Competitionin the United States.
