A new shuttle bus service, starting next week will make travelling between Dubai and Ajman easier and cheaper.

The Dubai Transport Corporation will introduce 50-seater buses in addition to the 28-seater mini-buses, already linking Dubai and Sharjah.

"We will operate a total of 50 vehicles, including 40 mini buses and 10 big buses," said Humaid Al Merri, Assistant Director General of the Corporation.

Al Merri said public transport buses would help decrease traffic congestion apart from providing a cheaper and comfortable means of transport.

The Corporation signed an agreement with the newly established Ajman Transport Authority on Saturday to launch the public transport bus service.

Currently, the Dubai Transport Corporation operates buses from Dubai to Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi.

The fare between Dubai and Ajman will be Dh7 and between Sharjah and Ajman Dh3. The Sharjah-Dubai fare is Dh5.

There will be one trip every hour.

Passengers in Ajman will be able to board buses from two stations, one at Ajman Museum Square and the other at Shaikh Zayed Road in the emirate.

Rachita K., a resident of Ajman who works in Dubai, welcomed the new service.

"It will be a big relief because I have to spend a lot of money on taxis to commute between Dubai and Ajman."

Amjad Malek, another resident, said that he would prefer not to drive his car if the service is good.

"I spend around two hours driving in heavy traffic to reach Dubai from Ajman and get tired by the time I reach my office. I can relax in the bus and it would also be cost-effective," he said.

Inter-emirate travel made cheaper

Dubai Transport Corporation will introduce 50-seater buses on Dubai-Ajman route, and they will operate between bus stations in Deira and Bur Dubai and Ajman's Ajman Museum Square and the other at Shaikh Zayed Road.
