Dolphin Energy Produces First Gas, Starts Commissioning Onshore Gas Plant

Dolphin Energy announced on 25 June it had started producing first gas from Qatar’s North Field, feeding gas to the onshore gas plant at Ras Laffan, which is undergoing testing and commissioning. “Once all procedures have been tested and verified, up to 2bn cfd of refined methane gas will be compressed for transport to the UAE through the company’s 48in subsea export pipeline,” Dolphin said. The company has already tested the export pipeline and receiving facilities at Taweelah in Abu Dhabi, and Qatar has been using the line to export some 400mn cfd of gas to Dubai, due to delays in the construction of the onshore gas plant, which is being carried out by Japan’s JGC under a $1.6bn contract awarded in early 2004 (MEES, 12 March).
