In a move set to raise productivity levels among its workforce and enhance the service it provides to its customers, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has announced that it will implement IBM's Lotus Domino version 6.5 software across its systems in all branches.

The decision to use Domino was made last October over the Gitex 2003 exhibition when the DIB made the decision to deploy the software across 900 seats in 32 office locations in the UAE including its 18 branches.

"We believe this move will bring us many benefits as we start to strengthen our work processes across different levels and follow up more easily on the various tasks at hand," said Abdullah Al Hamli, Executive Vice President of Business Services.

The software automates the bank's business processes, helping to reduce the turnaround time for customer credit inquiries while enhancing the productivity of its employees. A messaging option available in Domino also allows DIB to communicate faster across its different departments and consequently speed up the decision-making process.

"Paperwork is greatly reduced in our day to day work and this saves money, not to mention the fact that the software also simplifies our Help Desk processes. Lotus Domino is all about making collaboration easier and that is exactly what we need to put us on the edge of banking services in this market," added Al Hamli.

"Dubai Islamic Bank is the first IBM customer in the Middle East to upgrade its system to Lotus Domino 6.5 in order to meet its internal automation requirements," said the head of IBM's Software Group in the Middle East, Bashar Kilani. "The software is easy to implement and use and offers flexible upgrade advantages whenever newer versions of the office productivity suite become available. This allowed the DIB Information Technology's infrastructure team to take the initiative and upgrade their existing Lotus 5.08 infrastructure internally to the new software release."

Another enhancement to the software from the previous version is an e-mail tracking system that allows DIB employees to work more efficiently and follow up on their action items more quickly and effectively. "By enhancing our internal processes and empowering our employees to do more in less time, Lotus Domino makes it easier for us to deliver our broad range of services to our customers, "said Al Hamli.
