Al Ain: The Abu Dhabi Auth-ority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) yesterday said it will set up an arts and cultural complex in Al Ain.
The complex will include an art workshop, studios for artists, a hall for teaching Arabic calligraphy, photography and exhibition halls for both professional and amateur artists. The centre will be located in the Al Qatara district.
The ADACH said a music hall is also being planned at the complex. Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nah-yan, Chairman of the ADACH, said the initiative will help to maintain equilibrium between UAE traditions and modernity.
He said the authority will provide premises to host cultural activities. It will also give logistical support to make a crucial change in the intellectual scene in Al Ain.
The authority is also undertaking a number of other cultural projects for the promotion of cultural tourism in the oasis city. The traditional handicrafts market will be renovated. "These handicrafts are considered aesthetic symbols and artistic masterpieces of historical value," he said.
Exhibition
Shaikh Sultan said the authority is also planning to launch a data centre in Al Jahili Fort. The centre will include a photography exhibition that will depict the history of Al Ain. It will also provide information about heritage, cultural sites, government offices and cultural activities in the city.
Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui, Director General of the ADACH, said temporary locations have been allotted to host various cultural and heritage activities in Al Ain while another premise is under construction.
Some historical buildings are also being renovated. Al Jahili Fort, said Al Mazroui, would be a significant cultural centre.
