Kuwait City - The Health Ministry has asked the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to provide new grades to enable the ministry appoint citizen and expatriate nurses to cover the shortage it is currently facing, say sources. A delegation from the ministry earlier visited India and signed contracts with 400 nurses, said the source, adding if the CSC approves its application it will help the Ministry of Health to improve medical facilities especially in the recently established medical clinics. The new nurses are expected to arrive in Kuwait by September they explain. The ministry intends to employ thousands of new nurses from various countries to cover the shortage in nursing staff, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources. There are 5000 nurses currently employed in the ministry, it adds.

Pointing out the ministry will employ nurses from many countries including Pakistan, India, Philippines, China and Indonesia, the report quoting sources, stated, "This is the largest group of nurses the ministry has ever brought into the country since its establishment." Approximately 150 nurses resign from the ministry every year, say sources, adding the ministry intends to employ all the new nurses at the same time to cover shortages. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Kuwait Medical Association (KMA) Dr Abdulaziz Al-Enezi met with Chairman of the Indian doctors' organization in Kuwait Dr Lampuri to discuss various health issues especially in regard to Indian doctors.

During the meeting Dr Lampuri presented a report on activities of Indian doctors in Kuwait and another report on research completed by Indian doctors in Kuwait. Commending the organization on its contribution to Kuwait's health sector Al-Enezi said the meeting with the 500 member doctor organization's chairman in the private and public sector was "important". Al-Enezi called on doctors of other nationalities to follow in the footsteps of the Indian doctors and come together under one umbrella "to double the contribution to the health sector". "KMA welcomes any doctors' group wishing to create a link with the organization", said Al-Enezi.
