The exclusive importer of BMW Group cars in the Kingdom, Euro Motors said yesterday sales of BMW and MINI cars grew four per cent during the first-half of the fiscal.

The new BMW 5 Series, which was launched in March, was the top selling model with an increase of 84 per cent.

Complementing the strong performance, sales of the popular BMW X5 model grew 23 per cent followed by the flagship BMW 7 Series and BMW 3 Series.

In addition, sales of MINI, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, were up 18 per cent in the first six months of the year, Euro Motors said yesterday.

"The growth in sales comes on the back of a hectic six months for BMW. We had six new model launches in the first six months of the year - two ActiveHybrid models, BMW Gran Turismo, 5 Series, X1 and X5. It has been a busy and successful start to the year," said Paul Yates, General Manager, Euro Motors.

He said the four per cent growth in sales was a testament to the hard work of its sales staff and the trust placed in Euro Motors by customers in Bahrain.

Further, sales of BMW Premium Selection, the industry leading used car programme, also witnessed significant growth of 83per cent between January and June, making Euro Motors the best performing market in the Middle East region.

Across the Middle East region, the BMW Group posted a 13 per cent growth in sales during the period compared to the corresponding period in 2009. Across 14 Middle East markets, the premium automotive manufacturer delivered 8,096 BMW and MINI vehicles, signalling the underlying strength of both brands in the region.
