Dubai's claim to be the fastest-growing and most exciting place in the world has been further boosted by a major focus on the city organised by one of the world's top broadcasters.
The BBC has run a series of features on Dubai on its award-winning news website and the response from readers to the city has been a firm thumbs-up.
Respondents have described Dubai recently dubbed the world's hippest city as "remarkable", "amazing", "an absolute jewel in the desert" and one of the safest tourist destinations in the world.
Western media have become fascinated by Dubai as the city expands at an extraordinary rate and the growth of Emirates airline brings in ever-larger numbers of tourists.
In an online feature at http://news.bbc.co.uk, writer Clark Stevenson talks of Dubai's "huge ambitions" and compares it to American metropolis Los Angeles.
"Sure, it has bright lights and ambitious hordes seeking their fortune but, the people of Dubai will tell you, the city isn't built on a gamble.
"The projects stack up. The city is a natural mid-way point between Europe and Asia, the hub for the Middle East," Stevenson writes.
Among the major schemes highlighted are the soon-to-be tallest building in the world Burj Dubai, the man-made islands such as the Palm projects, and the forthcoming DubaiLand scheme.
"All this creates a peculiar, slightly hyper attitude among residents. Part 1850s Klondike, part 1960s London, there is an air that anything's possible, that the dazzling soon becomes the norm," Stevenson adds.
The report, however, also mentions some of the concerns currently in the minds of residents, among them traffic congestion, rising rental costs and irregular pay packets for some labourers.
Just days ago Gulf News reported that Dubai had become the "Hippest City in the World" according to reports on FoxNews.com.
Franko Vatterott of the Human Interest Group said Dubai could now be compared with world cities such as Tokyo, Paris, New York and Chicago.
The city's attractions are such that huge international stars are thought to have bought property here, among them rocker Rod Stewart, footballer David Beckham and Formula One driver Michael Schumacher.
There is so much construction going on in Dubai that one in six cranes in the world is based in the city.
