BASRA: The governor of Basra has promised to supply drinking water to all areas in the province, explaining that quick solutions will be provided to the water problem.
"During a recent visit to Baghdad, Governor Shaltagh Abboud al-Mayah had fruitful talks with the prime minister, which concluded with an agreement to set up a higher committee that includes his senior advisor, Engineer Thamir al-Ghadban, and several experts from the Ministry of Water Resources to work out quick solutions to the water problem," according to an official statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
"Water pipes will be installed in Basra City and al-Sayba district to pump water into Umm Qasr, al-Faw and Abi al-Khaseeb," the statement noted.
The cost of the project, which will be submitted to the Parliament for approval, is $20 million U.S. dollars, the statement added.
The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
