Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company has exported 1.811 million tons of various petrochemical products valued at $1 billion to 23 Asian and European countries during the first ten months of the current Iranian year (ends March 20).
The figure shows 67 percent and 35 percent growth respectively in value and weight over the same period of last year, ECO news reported.
Pentane plus, butane, propane, propylene, benzene pyrolyze, ethylene, benzene, and poly ethylene are among the major products exported to UK, France, Italy, Armenia, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, India, Spain, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar, Japan, China, South Korea, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Iran ranks second in making petrochemical products across the region, said managing director of National Petrochemical Company.
Abdolhossein Bayat explained that Saudi Arabia (with annual production of 58 million tons) and Qatar (11 million tons) sit at first and third places respectively, IRIB reported.
He referred to gaining self-sufficiency in urea fertilizer as the main achievement of petrochemical industry in recent years.
"Apart from meeting domestic need, we have started to export urea fertilizer", he said.
The petrochemicals industry has become an important aspect of Iran's non-oil economy and the basis of the country's economic diversification.
Around 40 percent of non-oil exports were from the petrochemicals industry in fiscal year 2009/2010.
