Bahrain and India are in the process of concluding an extradition treaty, Indian Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani has said here.
The treaty will be concluded very soon, Advani told reporters during a brief refuelling stopover in Bahrain Saturday night on his way back to India from France.
Advani, who is also India's Home Minister, went to Qatar and France on this trip.
He initiated talks on an extradition treaty with both countries - while the talks with Qatar are still being finalised, the Indo-French discussions have resulted in a joint extradition treaty being inked by Advani and French Justice Minister Dominique Perben.
"Extradition treaties are a pre-emptive measure that will tighten the noose around criminals and terrorists - once they are in place, criminals and terrorists will know that the doors are closed for them in other countries and that they will be handed back to India," he said.
