The setting up of an integrated call centre by the Ministry of Health has been suspended due to problems faced by the company implementing the project.

The centre was to provide citizens with an easily-accessible service for making medical appointments at any health centre in Bahrain.

However, according to Director of the Health Centres' Administration, Sima Mohamed Zainel, this project has been postponed after the ministry had to terminate the contract of the company tasked with setting up the centre.

The company had already tested out the call centre system in the Na'im health centre and was planning to extend the service to Isa Town. However this got delayed due to a shortage in the number of phone operators available.

New bids for the project will be issued in 2011. Once up and running, the service will be free for all citizens and will include an SMS service to remind patients of their appointments.
