Bahrain Financial Services Development (BFSD) at the Economic Development Board has made a bold statement by hosting a group of Islamic Finance leaders at the 3rd Annual World Islamic Funds and Capital Markets Conference (WIFCMC) Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). BFSD emphasized the opportunities that Bahrain's financial sector provides to investors worldwide, and promoted the Kingdom's sound regulations which make it the ideal place for financial companies looking to build an effective presence in the Middle East.
The BFSD is a dedicated resource to respond to the needs of the financial services sector. Its role is to increase the international profile of Bahrain as a leading financial and business destination and to provide a single point of contact for international financial services firms looking to establish in the Kingdom.
WIFCMC provided an ideal opportunity to reach out not only to regional, but international Islamic Finance business leaders with the message that Bahrain is number one for finance in the Gulf. Currently, more than 150 Islamic financial institutions and funds are based in Bahrain, as a result of the most effective infrastructure in the region. At the WIFCMC market leaders from key countries discussed new insights into the trends and opportunities emerging in the international Islamic funds and capital industry, highlighting the fact that the region as a whole has room for significant growth with associated returns for investors.
Jane Dellar, Managing Director of BFSD, said: "The large number of delegate registrations this year of over 250 participants from Islamic financial firms worldwide is a clear indication that the region has a lot more to offer to the Islamic financial industry. The event also provided another platform to present BFSD's new look, with an impressive presence at the conference and as the host of the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the region's premier motorsport facility."
She said: "We need to showcase Bahrain to all those who have come for the conference and use this opportunity to show them all that the Kingdom has to offer. In doing so we can safeguard the success of the financial services sector - which contributes more than a quarter of Bahrain's GDP and provides rewarding and well paid employment for a growing number of Bahraini citizens.
"BFSD is committed to providing not just the warmest welcome, but also the strongest platforms on which successful businesses can be built. Companies have timed their visit to discuss establishing a regional presence base in Bahrain and we are here to assure them that Bahrain is where they should be."
"Hosting the event at the BIC is important for us. The track is a remarkable facility that shows how serious we are about developing all aspects of Bahrain and that regardless of size, we can execute big projects."
Martin Whitaker, Chief Executive Officer, BIC said: "The BFSD does a great job by not only promoting Bahrain's financial sector to investors worldwide, but also demonstrating other significant initiatives that have been generated by Bahrain's ambition and determination to become a leading economy in the Middle East. It gives us an opportunity to showcase the circuit and inform the business community of the various activities that take place here and demonstrate our capability to host world class corporate events."
