MANAMA: Bahrain-based Bagasse International has launched its Agriware brand of cutlery and tableware in select Carrefour stores in the country.

Agriware products are made from sugarcane pulp and plant fibres that do not harm the environment or marine life, making it a better alternative to even paper as it ensures complete biodegradability in landfills.

The products are microwaveable and refrigerator safe.

“We are committed to a cleaner and greener environment, and the time to make massive change is now. As plastic is the biggest culprit behind environment and marine degradation, we offer a solution that is an earth-friendly and safe alternative to plastic,” said Bagasse chairman Sanjeev Chadha.

Bagasse International’s local operations are based in Bahrain Investment Wharf, Hidd.

The company is urging institutions, schools, catering companies and hotels to take advantage of a free trial and sampling of their products.

“While we can’t reduce the demand for disposable cutlery and tableware, what we are striving to do is nip single-use plastic in the bud and offer consumers a totally safe, biodegradable option that is beneficial for the planet,” said managing director Anil Tiwari.

Jerome Akel, country manager of Carrefour Bahrain at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said through the partnership with Bagasse International, the supermarket chain was making sustainable alternatives readily available as a result.

“We encourage all our customers to consider opting for eco-friendly cutlery the next time they visit our stores, as every purchase brings us one step closer to a better future for our planet.”
