State-owned Oman Air has expanded its fleet to meet growing demand for air travel.

The airline announced on Sunday the delivery of a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 from aircraft lessor CBD Aviation.

The aircraft is the last in a series of five deliveries contracted as part of a sale and leaseback transaction with CBD Aviation, which is a subsidiary of China Development Bank Financing Leasing Co.

The new addition brings Oman Air’s fleet up to 52 aircraft, including 10 Airbus A330s, 33 Boeing 737s and nine Boeing 787s. The aircraft will serve both domestic and short-to-medium international destinations.

“As air travel demand continues to grow post-pandemic, Oman Air has the opportunity to expand progressively,” said Abdulaziz Al Raisi, CEO of Oman Air.

Last year, the airline launched two new routes, with more planned in the coming months.

Airports in Oman recorded more than 9.8 million passengers by the end of 2022, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The number of passenger arrivals went up by 133%.
