Dubai Global human resources consulting firm Aon Hewitt yesterday named six organisations as the “best employers” in the Middle East at an awards ceremony held in Dubai.
The best employers for 2011 are Microsoft Gulf, Microsoft Egypt, DHL Worldwide Express (Dubai), Oman Insurance Company, Procter and Gamble Near East (Beirut office) and Fine Hygienic Paper, UAE.
The winners were chosen from over 50 organisations across the region. The study covered 120,000 employees, making it one of the largest employee research projects undertaken in the Middle East. Dr Mohammad Al Khaldi, supervisor for financial and administrative affairs, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, said the study is a good way of encouraging companies to invest in their top resource: people.
“So my advice to those who did not make it to the winners’ list is they should focus on their people. They should know how to raise the morale of their workers. Make them come to work happy. Try to listen to them. Promote a good working culture and environment,” Al Khaldi told Gulf News. Al Khaldi is one of the judges for the study.
Hussain Ali Al Shamsi, head of Arab Incubators Network, Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, said exemplary employee-centred practices helped companies land the award.
Incentives
“In fact, one of the things that amazed me during the review process was the fact that some employers go out of their way to reward their staff. One company, for example, is giving away a Rolex watch as an incentive,” he said.
Samir Mardini, Aon Hewitt’s talent and performance solution leader, Middle East, said the region’s best employers treat human resources as an integral business partner, score high in employee engagement and are better at career development.
