ABU DHABI, 1st May, 2014 (WAM)--Ahmed Shabib Al Dhahiri, Director-General of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, today afternoon received at the foundation's office Princess Alexandra, President of the Sightsavers and member of the British royal family.
Al Dhahiri said Princess Alexandra offered to the foundation the services of Sightsavers organisation, which treats patients from the blindness in a number of the Pacific states such as Solomon Islands, Fuji and others. He added that they discussed future projects to treat the blindness in a number of countries such as Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Al Dhahiri said he briefed Princess Alexandra about the directives of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and H.H. Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, on provision of aid to all needy categories wherever they are in coordination with the charity bodies in the UAE. He added the foundation had previously cooperated with the organisation in Africa, where they implemented in 2004 the river blindness and trachoma treatment project. Al Dhahiri noted that the president of sightsavers organisation is visiting Abu Dhabi to attend the UAE Conference on Saving Sight, opened yesterday at Emirates Palace by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, in the presence of former British Prime Minister Sir John Major. The event was held in conjunction with the Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development. Sightsavers is a large international charity that works to combat blindness in developing countries. It is based in the United Kingdom, with branches in Italy, Republic of Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and the USA.
