Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will launch its silver taxi service in the Western Region of the emirate from September 1. The new service is the first of its kind in the Western Region aimed at offering advanced corporate services against what is currently known as the golden-white taxi service managed by individuals.

The Western Region constitutes the majority of the emirate’s landmass and comprises major towns such as Madinath Zayed, Ghayathi, Liwa, Ruwais and Sila.

The Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars, the taxi regulatory authority in the emirate, announced yesterday that taxi trip tariffs will be the same as in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Customers can benefit from the round-the-clock automated taxi reservation facility by calling the call centre (600 53 53 53), a press release issued by the authority said.

The same companies operating taxis in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain - Al Ghazal Taxi, Arabia Taxi, CARS Taxi, Emirates Taxi, National Taxi, and Tawasul Taxi - will extend their services in the Western Region.

The companies have conducted professional training for drivers who will be providing the service in the Western Region.

Mohammad Al Hosani, Director of Franchise and Licensing at the authority, said: “The new service addresses the needs of people in the Western Region as well as visitors and tourists, especially in light of anticipated growth of the region and the mega developments being undertaken there, all aimed at raising the profile of the region in social, economic and tourism sectors.”

Early last year, the authority launched an interactive voice response (IVR)taxi booking system with an aim to provide the public with world-class, convenient and round-the-clock automated services. Taxi reservation calls can be made to the call centre which uses global positioning system (GPS) to locate the taxi nearest to the caller’s address and send the customer an SMS with the details of dispatched taxi and its driver. Besides, calls regarding services suggestions, complaints and other inquiries can be made to the call centre.
