Iran's National Petrochemical Company plans to open four new petrochemical projects by March 2011. The new projects will commence production in the Iranian calendar month of Esfand (February 20 to March 20).
The projects include the PVC unit of Arvand Petrochemical Complex with the production capacity of 240,000 tons per annum, Fars News Agency reported.
The other petrochemical units include the light polyethylene of Amir Kabir Complex, part of phase 2 of Fajr Complex and the hard polystyrene unit of Tabriz Complex, which will come on stream by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20).
Last week, Deputy Iranian Oil Minister for Petrochemical Affairs Abdolhossein Bayat said that Iran's petrochemical industries exported over 10 million tons of products in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21-December 21).
"More than 10 million tons of petrochemical products have been exported since the beginning of the current year posting a 22-percent growth compared with the same period last year," Bayat stated. The exported products were worth $6.2 billion, which shows a 47- percent growth against last year, he added.
According to Bayat, currently some 39 petrochemical complexes are active in Iran, 30 of which are owned by the private sector and the rest are under government control.
Iran, the world's fifth largest oil producer, exported around 14 million tons of petrochemical products worth more than $9 billion in 2009.
