Abu Dhabi, July 16, 2004 (WAM)--The ICDL GCC Foundation, the regionalgoverning body of the ICDL GCC member countries, dedicated to helpingraise the general level of computer skills in society and providing accessfor all to the Information Society,As part of its ongoing endeavour toincrease the penetration of computer literacy across the Gulf region,the ICDL-GCC Foundation announced its support to UAE University and ZayedUniversity in their efforts to offer 2,000 UAE national high school studentsan the opportunity to acquire the ICDL certifications at organized summercamps.
The ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body of the ICDL programmein the Gulf states, is supporting these summer programmes on the basisof beingin its role as the regional arm of European Computer Driving Licence(ECDL), the not-for-profit global regulatory body of the ICDL member countries.
Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education andScientific Research and President of Zayed University, visited the summercamp events organized by the Abu Dhabi Education Zone in cooperation withZayed University.
Sheikh Nahyan said that the school environment should be conducivefor students to practice different cultural, social and sport activitiesand develop their talents. He stressed that students should be encouragedto avail of their vacations in a positive and constructive manner.
The ICDL programme summer camp at Zayed University is held underthe patronage of Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director of thePresident?s Office, while the certification coursesICDL summer camp atthe UAE University are offered provided under the support of SheikhDhiyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director General of the Presidential Courtand Director of Abu Dhabi Electricity and Water Authority (ADEWA).
Jamil Ezzo, Director General of ICDL-GCC Foundation, said: ?We respectfullyappreciate the support extended by Sheikh Mansoor and Sheikh Dhiyabto this initiative which offers ICDL training for school students.
Computer and Internet applications have become an essential part componentsof modern educational environment and the ICDL certification is an efficienttoolthe ideal syllabus that gives students immense capabilities for acquisitionofacquiring knowledge and enhancing their education skill levels. Summercamps are perfect opportunities for national students to enhance theircomputer skills through the ICDL certification.? ICDL-GCC Foundation is co-ordinating with UAE University and ZayedUniversity the summer camp trainers to ensure effective implementationof the ICDL program in the summer camps, as per the stringent internationalquality standards set by ECDL Foundation.
ICDL GCC Foundation is also working closely with the Institute ofTechnological Innovation (ITI) of Zayed University, which over the summeris offering ICDL training and certification to over 900 national schoolstudents from Grade 7 to 12 from the Abu Dhabi Education Zone (ADEZ) andWestern Educational Zone (WEZ).
