Over 100 new products will be manufactured once new three petrochemical projects are launched, said deputy oil minister.
Abdolhossein Bayat told Mehr News Agency that the government plans to inaugurate 19 new projects.
He explained that hydrogenation projects, Tabriz petrochemical development, pretreatment of industrial wastewaters, and treatment of Fajr petrochemical wastewaters in Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone are near inauguration.
Currently, 73 development plans in petrochem industry are underway in various phases including designing, construction, installation and launching, he added.
The financial resources in forex and rials for 15 petrochemical projects have been entirely secured, he said.
Bayat urged for increasing the diversity of petrochemical products to 130 by the end of seventh five-year economic development plan (2020-2025).
The petrochemical industry has become an important aspect of Iran's non-oil economy and the basis of the country's economic diversification.
In July, Bayat said demand for Iran's petrochemical products is on the rise despite Western sanctions against the Iranian energy sector.
"Since the beginning of new Iranian year (started March 20) and despite escalation of [Western] sanctions, the volume of Iran's petrochemical and polymer exports has not deceased, but has increased," he said.
He added that Iran's petrochemical exports to European countries continue unaltered because "Iranian petrochemical products can be exported in the face of any sanctions."
Iran has sold in advance petrochemical products via long-term contracts with some foreign companies and has no concern about exporting such products, he noted.
Petchem Production
Meanwhile, production manager of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said 31 petrochemical projects have been inaugurated during the tenures of the ninth and tenth governments, adding petrochemical production capacity of the country has also grown by 28 million tons.
Ali Mohammad Bassaqzadeh said several petrochemical projects including Kermanshah's polymer, the first phase of West's ethylene pipeline and Kavian petrochemical plant will soon come on stream.
He expressed satisfaction over the favorable progress in the construction of Mahabad and Kurdestan petrochemical complexes.
Bassaqzadeh reiterated that monetary resources for the implementation of many "Mehr-e Mandegar" petrochemical projects have been secured.
According to IRNA, 17 petrochemical projects are currently in the final phases of implementation, of which six projects have seen a physical progress of 90-99 percent and 11 projects are 50-80 percent completed.
Complete inauguration of 19 Mehr-e Mandegar petrochemical projects during the tenth government's administration, has helped the industry to play a more significant role in the economic development of the country.
In February, a report released by Fars News Agency said petrochemical production capacity and the number of Iranian petrochemical complexes have witnessed eye-catching growth in the last three decades since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Public Relations Department of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced that production capacity has increased 19 folds to reach 54.5 million tons compared to the figure for the pre-Islamic Revolution years.
It added that nominal petrochemical production capacity reached 51 million tons by the end of the Fourth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2005-10) from three million tons at the beginning of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
