Light Middle East and Garden+Landscaping Middle East now open

Her Excellency Dr. Mariam El Shenasi, a representative from UAE Minister of Environment, today (Sunday, October 31) inaugurated two trade shows - Garden+Landscaping Middle East and Light Middle East. The exhibitions, operated by German trade fair organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH, are amongst the region's few carbon neutral events and will run until Tuesday, November 2 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Accompanied by a host of VIPs, government and public sector figures, leading representatives of the community and the lighting, garden and landscaping industries, H.E. Dr. Mariam Hassan Al Shenasi representing the Ministry of Environment and Water toured the exhibition halls and expressed appreciation about the quality of the event and how they were a valid representation of the industries in the region.

Both exhibitions look at sustainability and responsible development that take into consideration the local environment. The Ministry  underlined the importance of such trade events that draw attention to the current issues that face the industries on both the regional and international stage.

"It is very good to have shows such as Light Middle East and Garden+Landscaping Middle East as it goes along the lines of sustainability pursued by the UAE government," said H.E. Dr. Shenasi. "These shows raise awareness on sustainability and green initiatives to protect the environment and reduce CO2 emissions."

She added that the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water has initiated green building technology to reduce emission. H.E. Shenasi said the Environment Minister has introduced an initiative for the efficient use of electrical devices.

Speaking at the opening, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, Mr. Ahmed Pauwels said: "We are happy to join hands with the local authorities to raise awareness about the challenges and issues facing our industry today. Responsible development is crucial to preserving a secure environment for all and companies and institutions have a responsibility to address these issues," he said.

Both exhibitions, which run until Tuesday feature the latest products and developments in their respective fields, bringing together designers, developers, consumers, end users, distributors, retailers and other industry professionals. Another big attraction is the three days of conferences, seminars and workshops that address the hot topics that confront the industries today.

At Light Middle East, Thorn Gulf LLC is promoting exhibition stands that can be used again and again thus conserving resources and reducing carbon emissions. Gabriel Abdelhakmi-Gaisne is also promoting the Diana LED light pole that has been installed in Abu Dhabi. "This pole is remote controlled by technicians.  It automatically sends out an SMS if maintenance is required." He added that his company is promoting the benefits of sustainability in a road tour of GCC countries.

The three day light conference features leading speakers and experts in their fields who will discuss the challenges facing the industry, the role of new technology in combating these and it will assess new developments and trends in the field.

Tomorrow, the Light Focus Conference themed, "Innovation and Sustainability in Design", will feature industry-leading experts  brought in with the support of the Professional Lighting Designers Association (PLDA), who will speak about the latest lighting innovations and challenges inherent in sustainable lighting applications.

The Philips LED Forum and Exhibitor Experts' Forum on Tuesday is coined: A Lighting Industry Powwow on Innovation & Sustainability in Design for the Gulf region. The Forum will give exhibiting companies the opportunity to educate visitors on the show floor about their activities in the areas of innovative lighting control methods, user interface design controls, success factors and trends in LED lighting, dynamic lighting, and eco-friendly lighting solutions. The focus is specifically on innovations and solutions relevant to the Middle East region replacing traditional product demonstration presentations.

Garden+Landscaping Middle East will turn the spotlight on the need for increased use of local plant species in landscaping and ornamental gardening around the region. Local plant species are easier on the environment and take up much less water and fertilisers for their upkeep. The event will also explore the use of green roofs and living walls as a means to reduce energy use, while also providing organic alternatives to the widespread use of harmful chemicals in ferlilisers and pesticides.

Garden+Landscaping Middle East is the region's sole dedicated trade event for the garden, landscaping and outdoor living industries, while Light Middle East is the premier trade event for urban, architectural, theatrical and retail lighting in the wider region.
