ABU DHABI, May 23rd, 2013 (WAM): Kuwait's crude oil exports to South Korea in April grew 14.4% from a year earlier to 11.08 million barrels, or 369,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to latest data released by the state-run Korea National Oil Corporation.

As South Korea's number-two supplier, Kuwait provided 16.0% of the Asian nation's total crude oil imports in April, compared to a 13.2%share in the same month of 2012, the data carried by Kuwait's news agency (KUNA) showed.

In the January-April period, Kuwait boosted sales to the world's fifth-largest crude importer by 27.5% year-on-year to 43.98 million barrels (367,000 bpd).

Overall South Korea's crude oil imports in April went down 5.6% on the year to 69.12 million barrels (2.30 million bpd).

Saudi Arabia remained South Korea's top crude supplier, although shipments from the kingdom fell 7.3% from a year earlier to 712,000 bpd. The United Arab Emirates ranked third with 242,000 bpd, up 34.5%, followed by and Qatar and Iran.

South Korea's imports of Iranian crude oil plunged 44.4% on the year to 139,000 bpd in the wake of US sanctions targeting Iran's nuclear program, the agency reported.
