Iran Khodro Industrial Group has signed two separate agreements with Sharif University of Technology and Amirkabir University of Technology to design and produce electronic and hybrid vehicles. The agreements were signed in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Ne'mati and Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi.

IKCO CEO and the heads of the mentioned universities signed the agreement on behalf of their entities. Based on the agreements, two sides are required to cooperate on designing, developing the prototype, testing and producing electronic and full-hybrid vehicles and pave the way for mass production of the vehicles.

The production of the mentioned vehicles would be carried out in three phases:

1) Developing technical and economic features

2) Designing and developing the prototype of vehicles and

3) Planning and finalizing the technical knowhow for producing on industrial scale.

During the ceremony, IKCO's CEO said the number of company's products has grown by 70 percent in 1393 (Iranian calendar year) comparing with the previous year. Hashem Yekke Zare noted that IKCO has set quality, export, after-sales service and products development as its main priorities and is pressing ahead its projects with the priorities in mind. He underlined the importance of expanding cooperation with Iranian universities saying IKCO has taken some step in this direction and in near future, similar agreements would be signed with other academic centers. He said IKCO has received advices from foreign experts in drafting the agreements and expressed hope that the company could increase its presence in the international markets in the near future.

Yekke Zare emphasized that IKCO is planning to launch several projects on electronic and hybrid vehicles in the coming years. It's noteworthy that back in 2010, there were only 25 thousand electronic and plug-in vehicles. The number reached 80 thousand in 2011 and 200 thousand in 2012. One year later, the number of vehicles rose to 405 thousand with a 100 percent growth. Now it's predicted that with the declining battery prices, the number of such vehicles will increase more and more.
