Center Supports Qatar's Strategy to Improve Energy Efficiency and Develop Region-Specific Solar Technologies
DOHA, Qatar, 27th March 2011--Qatar's engineers, architects and public can now explore in detail the latest energy efficiency and solar technologies, with the opening today of Chevron's Center for Sustainable Energy Efficiency (CSEE) in Chevron Qatar Energy Technology offices at Qatar Science & Technology Park.
The center was inaugurated under the auspices of HE Dr. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry, at a ceremony at the science park, accompanied by John Gass, Chevron's President of Global Gas, and Dr. Tidu Maini, QSTP's Executive Chairman. Also present were Saad Al-Kaabi, Director of Oil & Gas Ventures at Qatar Petroleum, and Carl Atallah, President of Chevron Qatar.
The Chevron CSEE was established to support Qatar's strategy for sustainable development. It has a visitor center with training and demonstration of energy-efficient lighting and photovoltaic technologies. Later in the year the Chevron CSEE expects to link with a solar research facility at QSTP studying solar power and solar air-conditioning.
Through its subsidiary Chevron Qatar Energy Technology Ltd, Chevron is investing $20 million in its QSTP activities over five years.
HE Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada said: "Energy sustainability is vital to Qatar's continued development, and it supports the vision set forth by His Highness The Emir of Qatar for how our country will reach the year 2030."
Dr. Tidu Maini said: "QSTP has a comprehensive strategy for technology evaluation and research-led development in solar energy in Qatar, which in the long term is sustainable and self reliant. Chevron's expertise and experience in testing and deploying clean energy technologies in California is of immense help. I welcome their contribution to our mission in Qatar and look forward to our partnership."
John Gass said: "We admire Qatar's development of its energy industry and salute its achievements. We are also proud to be given the opportunity to contribute to its next phase of growth, in which resources are maximized for future generations. This is an area where Chevron has much experience, and we are pleased to work together with the Qatar Science & Technology Park on achieving this potential".
Carl Atallah said: "The CSEE benefits from the expertise of San Francisco-based Chevron Energy Solutions, a comprehensive energy services division that develops energy efficient and renewable power projects for education, government and business customers including Chevron. The company is one of the largest installers of solar energy for education institutions in the U.S. and has extensive experience in evaluating the comparative merits of existing and emerging solar energy and energy efficiency technologies."
Visits to the Chevron CSEE can be arranged via its website, www.chevroncsee.com.
