DUBAI, 17th September, 2016 (WAM)--Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has inaugurated the first phase of its joint project with Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MBRHE).
The project aims to replace conventional lightbulbs with LED lightbulbs, among various projects launched by MBRHE. In cooperation with Etihad Energy Service Company (ESCO), DEWA will replace traditional light bulbs with LED lightbulbs in 500 villas, located in Al Barsha, Al Warqa, and Oud Metha. The move aims to reduce the demand for energy, and raise awareness in regard to LED lightbulbs. DEWA has allocated 6 teams to replace the bulbs, based on the highest standards of accountability, reliability, and safety. This supports DEWAs efforts to involve the community in the production of clean and renewable energy, enabling members of the community to reduce their energy bills, and protect the environment. The cooperation between DEWA and MBRHE, resulted after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2015. DEWA aims to supply, 2,000 new and existing homes from MBRHE with 160,000 LED light bulbs and photovoltaic (PV) panels. "We are glad to cooperate with MBRHE in this project, as it reflects the level of cooperation between different government entities in the Emirate, to protect the environment, and support Dubais economy, while ensuring a sustainable future. This supports the vision of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to transform Dubai into the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. He added, "I urge all house and villa owners to participate, to reduce energy consumption, and achieve the objectives set by our wise leadership, to reduce the overall demand for energy, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come." Installing LED light bulbs reduce energy demand, and supports the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030. It also supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum," added Al Tayer.
