CAIRO, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Egypt has appointed a new head for agricultural quarantine, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Najla Mousa Balabel was appointed to head the central administration for agricultural quarantine, the statement said.

Egypt saw its wheat buying programme thrown into disarray last year due to conflicting import regulations over ergot, a common fungus that can lead to hallucinations but is considered harmless at low levels.
