The Al Rams-Shamal traffic lights in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is down again. Despite being thoroughly reinstalled, and having each and every part of its replaced, including the cables and lights, the signal turned out of order for no clear reason.

The traffic and patrols department of the RAK police, in response to drivers' complaints on being caught by the radars on the Al Rams traffic lights, have decided to cancel all the violations recorded on the arterial intersection.

Col Ahmed Saeed Al Sam Al Naqbi, deputy director of the traffic and patrols department, said the decision is in pursuance to the directives of the Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police.

"We have been alerted that some drivers were nabbed by the cameras on the Al Rams-Shamal traffic signal while it was out of order, and these fines were revoked."

Only the violations recorded during the traffic glitch shall becancelled, he underlined. "The time and nature of each and every violation shall be studied and only the eligible ones shall be revoked."

Previously, the Al Rams-Shamal Traffic light was out of service for weather-related reasons, and sometimes for traffic accidents.

The more frequently malfunctioning traffic signal was partially blamed for some deadly traffic accidents in which a mother and her boy were killed earlier. The father, who was blamed for jumping the red traffic light claimed a glitch in the signal.

Residents of Al Rams area have cried foul over the repetitively breaking down signal and urged the bodies concerned to find a way out to this endless problem that has disrupted traffic flow so many times.
