The sultanate, represented by the Information Technology Authority (ITA), last week signed an agreement with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to enhance cooperation in cybersecurity and work together on a number of projects and initiatives to reduce cyberthreats and risks.
The agreement is pertaining to capacity building in cybersecurity, establishing early warning centres and a global network to respond to cyberthreats.
The pact was signed by Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA and Troels Oerting, head of WEF’s Global Centre for Cybersecurity.
Commenting on the signing of the agreement, Dr Ruzaiqi said, “Through this agreement, we seek to strengthen cooperation between the two sides in cybersecurity and hope to contribute in enhancing the role of the sultanate as a developed country in cybersecurity readiness and enhancing its role in helping other countries in facing cyberthreats and risks. The agreement will provide investment opportunities for local and international companies working in the field of cybersecurity within the sultanate.”
Oerting said, “Cybersecurity is very important and we need to focus on the ongoing changes in the ICT sector. We are proud to sign this agreement, which we believe will contribute in the development of cooperation in protecting users of the Internet, which can only be carried out in cooperation with all states.”
