The Ministry of Health has urged all citizens and residents who want to perform the hajj pilgrimage this year to take two necessary vaccines before they fly off to Saudi Arabia.

The ministry stated, “Those citizens and residents who wish to perform hajj pilgrimage during this year and accepted by the electronic sorting announced by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs have to proceed to the nearest health centre in their governorate in order to take the necessary vaccinations.”

It added that the two vaccines given are for meningococcal meningitis and seasonal influenza.

“The quadric-vaccination against meningococcal meningitis (ACWY 135) provides immunity for three years. Therefore, those who have been immunised with this vaccine for a period of not more than three years and have documentary proof, need not be vaccinated again.

“Seasonal influenza vaccine, which provides seasonal immunity against seasonal influenza diseases, is given annually.”

The ministry urges all pilgrims to take vaccination prior to departure for a period not less than ten days, which is considered a prerequisite to perform hajj, according to the instructions of the competent authorities.

“All are requested to adhere to the above instructions in order to prevent transmission of diseases and safeguard public health.”
