Mubasher: A planeload of needed medical supplies arrived in Kuwait on Sunday from China, as part of efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), according to a statement by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense.

The flight is also in line with the mutual cooperation between the Kuwaiti defence ministry, the health ministry, and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). The latter allocated KWD 5 million ($16.5 million) to purchase the most required supplies, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

A military carrier delivered more than 170 respirators and a large amount of medical protective gears to help upgrade the national health system, said KFAS' deputy director general for back-up programmes, Amani Al Bedah.

Two more planeloads of such equipment are expected to arrive in Kuwait within a week, she added.

With a total budget of KWD 10 million ($33 million), the KFAS’s emergency programme is one of the largest initiatives in Kuwait aimed to support the government’s efforts against the pandemic.

It is worth noting that on Sunday, Kuwait reported 364 new coronavirus, five deaths, and 73 recoveries, taking the count to 4,983 infections, 38 deaths, and 1,776 recoveries.
