The International Energy Agency will release its latest data on trends in global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions on Tuesday, 2 March 2021. For the first time, the IEA will provide emissions data and analysis on a monthly basis by country.

This will include trends in the world’s biggest emitters throughout 2020, covering advanced economies and emerging market and developing economies. The update will illustrate the variations in energy demand and CO2 emissions over the course of 2020 – from the early days of the pandemic through to the loosening of restrictions and pick-up in economic activity later in the year.

Amid a growing number of pledges by countries and companies to achieve net-zero emissions by mid-century, the new 2020 data will provide an important indication of what path global emissions were on going into 2021 – a critical year for efforts to reach international climate and sustainability goals.
