Commercial Bank International (CBI), a corporate and retail bank headquartered in Dubai, has been awarded the Human Resources Development Award in the banking and financial sector by the Emirates Institute of Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS), in recognition of the Bank’s commitment to Emiratization and the development of the local talent pool in the UAE.

The award was presented yesterday under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at the National Career Exhibition at Sharjah’s Expo Centre.

Mark Robinson, Chief Executive Officer at CBI, commented: “It’s a privilege to receive such a prestigious award which recognizes the success of our Emiratization programme and the representation of Emiratis across all levels of the Bank. CBI is fully committed to helping Emirati employees build the skills they need to succeed in banking, and to contributing to the growth of the UAE’s knowledge-based economy.”

Hessa Al Ghurair, CBI’s Chief Human Resources Officer, added: “CBI’s Emiratization programme forms an integral part of the Bank’s business model. Our objective is to recruit high-potential UAE Nationals for both leadership and non-managerial positions, and to equip them with the tools needed to make an impact in our organisation and in society more broadly. The key to a successful programme like ours is regular mentoring, coaching and training, and a healthy dialogue which gives our staff a voice on key issues, and welcomes open and transparent feedback.”

CBI’s Human Resources team has implemented a targeted strategy to recruit and train UAE Nationals across the Bank. The department makes continuous efforts throughout the year to attract Emiratis, from regular visits to educational institutions and summer training programmes for students, to career fairs across the UAE and proactive recruitment.

UAE Nationals constitute a growing proportion of the leadership across CBI, with three UAE Nationals on the Bank’s Executive Management team, and a growing number of UAE Nationals filling senior management positions across all areas of the Bank.
