UAE-based district cooling company Empower said on Sunday that has saved more than 1,312 megawatts of electricity, equivalent to 3.4 billion UAE dirhams ($926 million) and more than 349 million imperial gallons of potable water in 2020.
 
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower said in a press statement that Empower uses the most advanced district cooling systems in its operations, in line with international standards. In addition, the company has been one of the pioneers in adopting Thermal Energy Storage (TES) technology, which is known for its efficiency in reducing greenhouse gases in projects.
 
The press statement underlined the UAE’s carbon emission reduction strategies by the country's climate negotiation team in virtual meetings of parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which was launched on 31 May and continues until 17 June to prepare for COP26, which will be held in Glasgow, UK, in November 2021.
 
Empower is one of the key partners for UN Environment’s 'District Energy in Cities' initiative and an active member of the UN lead ‘Cool Coalition’ initiative.
 
The company provides district cooling services to more than 1,252 buildings in the emirate with a total cooling capacity of 1.64 million Refrigeration Tonnes (RT).
