Dubai:: Dubai CommerCity (DCC), first dedicated e-commerce free zone in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA), will participate in the 39th GITEX Technology Week, being held from October 6-10 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
In line with the recent announcement by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council about the launch of the Dubai e-commerce strategy which aims to increase the contribution of e-commerce to Dh12 billion in the local economy by 2023, DCC is committed to elevating Dubai’s position as a leading center for e-commerce
Ms. Amna Lootah, Assistant Director General, DAFZA said: “E-commerce is one of the fastest growing sectors which is playing a key role in the growth of the local and regional economy. In the UAE, we are witnessing a significant expansion within the e-commerce industry and the market is estimated to be worth an astounding $27.1 billion by the year 2022.”
At GITEX 2019, DCC will demonstrate the growing opportunities available to e-commerce companies within the MENASA region. This year, Dubai CommerCity will highlight how the free zone will boost the growth of the regional e-commerce industry, by providing an advanced digital infrastructure to support the companies operating within the sector. DCC will also share latest trends and insights on how technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT) and smart infrastructure are helping to boost the growth of the e-commerce sector.

The free zone has been tailored to enable e-Commerce operations with high speed connectivity, automated and integrated logistics and warehouse operations, smart mobility, smart services and last mile delivery solutions. It will also showcase its comprehensive and advanced infrastructure to ensure fast and efficient distribution and delivery services - all of which are key elements of the e-commerce industry.
Dubai CommerCity will provide a first of its kind ‘e-Commerce as a service’ through leading partners to enable its clients to operate through an e-Commerce platform. DCC has finalized a partnership agreement with Redbox, a Global Elite Magento Service Provider who have rich international and regional experience. With such a partnership, DCC’s clients will be able to enjoy benefits such as hassle-free operations, shorter e-commerce set up time, lower investments cost, integrations with 3PL, customs, and warehouse systems, and order management among others.
As part of its research-led approach, Dubai CommerCity launched the MENASA e-commerce landscape report. The report assists global companies and startups in evaluating the opportunities within the regional e-commerce market and demonstrates the high growth in the MENASA region.
The report estimates that the region’s e-commerce sector is growing aggressively at 24.6% CAGR growth through to 2020. This is faster than any region in the world, as the global projected growth during the same period is at 20.6% with a declining growth trajectory.
The report also shows that the e-commerce sector in MENASA is witnessing considerable growth that is being led by consumer trends such as higher use of social media. As well as improvements in the development of infrastructure, in terms of modern technology such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and e-payment, and in terms of services, logistics, and shipping.
